Sangareddy: With soaring land prices in the city, land mafia gangs are increasingly targeting high-value properties in areas like Kokapet, where land costs run into hundreds of crores per acre. In a recent incident that caused alarm, a gang attempted to seize land worth around ₹300 crore in Kolluru village, Ramachandrapuram Mandal, late at night. Acting on a complaint from the owners, local police intervened and successfully foiled the attempt.

Officials said around 200 gang members arrived at the site at 9:30 pm and remained until 1 am, attempting to occupy 5.12 guntas of land owned by G. Madhavi, wife of Bhagavan Reddy, and 4 acres belonging to Srinivas Chadlawada. The gang initially attacked on-site security guards, forcibly taking them away to Narsingi, and then brought in containers, name boards, and railing pipes to secure the site. Using JCBs, they removed boundary walls and reinforced the railings to establish control.

The gang also threatened a couple working as watchmen, warning of fatal consequences if they intervened, though the couple stayed on site. Information relayed by the released security guards reached the supervisor, who immediately alerted the police. Kolluru police arrived promptly and managed to control the situation, preventing any further damage or unlawful occupation.

Police confirmed that 26 people were taken into custody, including about 20 women and 12 men. Madhavi, the landowner, stated that the 5.12 guntas in Survey Number 192 has been in her family since 1999 and that the gang attempted to forcibly occupy it and damage the security structures. The case has been registered and is currently under investigation, Sangareddy authorities said.
