The issue of Lok Sabha constituency delimitation has sparked nationwide debate, with BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) reiterating his stance on the matter. He stated that if the central government proceeds with delimitation, it should be based on the financial contributions made by individual states.
KTR extended his support to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s concerns that the process should not disadvantage southern states. In a post on X, he emphasized that penalizing states that implemented family planning measures for national benefit is unjust. He asserted that conducting delimitation without considering the economic performance of southern states contradicts democratic and federal principles. He further highlighted Telangana’s contribution, noting that despite accounting for only 2.8% of the country’s population, the state contributes over 5.2% to the GDP.
Meanwhile, CM Stalin’s remarks that delimitation poses a significant challenge to southern states have gained prominence. He pointed out that these states followed population control measures and should not face discrimination under the guise of national development. In this context, the DMK has scheduled an all-party meeting on March 5 to deliberate on the issue. The meeting is expected to focus on key concerns and potential resolutions regarding the delimitation process.
