Telangana Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) has moved the Supreme Court against Telangana Assembly Speaker Shiv Prasad, alleging defiance of a July 3 Court order. The order had directed the Speaker to take action within three months on disqualification petitions against 10 BRS MLAs expelled from the party. KTR expressed dissatisfaction as no action has been taken to date and requested that the Court urgently hear his contempt petition.

During the hearing, the BRS party’s lawyer brought the matter before Chief Justice B. R. Gavai. The Supreme Court scheduled the petition for hearing on the upcoming Monday. With CJI Gavai’s retirement set for November 23, lawyer Mohit Rao stated that the case will proceed until then. The Chief Justice assured that the Court will continue functioning normally after November 24.

Earlier, BRS leaders KT Rama Rao, Padi Kaushik Reddy, and Vivekanand had filed a petition seeking directions for the Speaker to act against the 10 expelled MLAs. The Supreme Court, citing the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution, had directed the Telangana Assembly Speaker on July 31 to decide on the disqualification petitions within three months. BRS leaders now claim that despite the lapse of the stipulated period, no action has been taken by the Speaker.
