Hyderabad: Renowned actor and Padma Shri awardee Kota Srinivasa Rao passed away in the early hours of Sunday at the age of 83, leaving an irreplaceable void in the Telugu film industry. His death has triggered an outpouring of grief from political leaders and film personalities across the Telugu states.

A towering figure in Indian cinema, Kota Srinivasa Rao was known for his exceptional versatility and powerful performances over a career spanning more than four decades. He breathed his last at his residence in Film Nagar, Hyderabad, following a prolonged illness.

Reacting to the news, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed deep condolences. “The demise of Kota Srinivasa Rao, who captivated audiences with his diverse roles, is a profound loss. His contributions to cinema and theatre remain unforgettable. His performances as a villain and character artist have left a permanent imprint on Telugu cinema. In 1999, he also served the people as an MLA from Vijayawada. I offer my heartfelt condolences to his family,” Naidu stated in a message.

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy also paid tribute, saying, “Kota Srinivasa Rao’s passing is deeply saddening. He was a towering figure in the film industry, and his absence creates a void that cannot be filled. Though no longer with us physically, the roles he portrayed will keep him alive in the hearts of Telugu audiences. I pray for his soul to rest in peace and convey my deepest sympathies to his family.”

Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy described Kota’s demise as a significant loss to the industry. “He was an actor of remarkable talent, honoured with the Padma Shri and numerous awards. His contributions to Indian cinema are unforgettable. I offer my tributes and pray for eternal peace to his soul,” Jagan said.

Kota Srinivasa Rao’s legacy spans over 750 films across multiple languages, and his passing marks the end of an era in South Indian cinema.
