In a significant political development in Telangana, the Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS), led by Prof. Kodandaram, is set to merge with the Indian National Congress. A majority of TJS leaders have expressed their preference to merge the party with Congress, and Kodandaram appears to be inclined toward the merger as well. Both parties are currently engaged in discussions to formalize the merger.
The decision to merge was a key topic at a recent TJS state-level meeting in Hyderabad, where party leaders unanimously supported the merger with Congress. After the meeting, more clarity on the merger process is expected. The meeting, which took place at the TJS office in Nampally, Hyderabad, highlighted the pressure from party leaders on Kodandaram to pursue the merger with Congress.

Speculation about the merger has been circulating for some time, and preliminary discussions had taken place before the elections. However, Kodandaram had initially shown little interest in merging TJS with any other party. With the elections now concluded and Kodandaram receiving an opportunity to serve as a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) under Congress, many party leaders are advocating for a merger with Congress to strengthen the collaboration.
The merger is expected to provide key TJS leaders with opportunities for leadership roles within Congress. Although Kodandaram clarified that TJS would not merge with any other party, insisting that the party would continue its fight against corruption in the BRS government, his support for Congress during the recent elections, along with his current MLC position, indicates a potential shift in his political stance.
