In a significant move for Telangana, the Railway Ministry has announced the establishment of a Railway Coach Factory in Kazipet, fulfilling another promise made during the state’s bifurcation. The central government has directed the creation of the new facility, alongside an upgrade of the existing Overhauling Workshop into a manufacturing unit.
The decision follows a letter from the Railway Board to the South Central Railway General Manager on July 5, 2023, recommending the upgrade. Subsequently, on September 9, 2024, the Railway Board issued instructions for the development of the unit to facilitate the production of LHB (Linke Hofmann Busch) and EMU (Electric Multiple Unit) coaches.
