In an emotional address during the Telangana Legislative Council session, MLC Kavitha announced her resignation from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), citing internal party struggles and political vendettas. She expressed her discontent with the lack of support she received from the party and the absence of internal democracy within BRS, stating, “If there’s no internal democracy in the party, how can there be democracy in the state?” Kavitha reflected on her eight-year-long journey leading the Jagruti organization independently, despite efforts to block her initiatives from within the party.
She criticized the BRS government for its failure to address the demands of Telangana movement leaders and its handling of key issues such as corruption, arrests of farmers, and lack of support for welfare initiatives. Kavitha also raised concerns over the government’s priorities, particularly focusing on large-scale projects instead of alleviating poverty. She called for more political representation of women, highlighting the lack of women in political leadership, “After my resignation, only two women will remain in the Assembly.”
Kavitha also spoke on her resignation, asserting that despite leaving the party today, she would return in the future as a stronger force. Telangana Legislative Council Chairman Gutha Sukender Reddy acknowledged her emotional distress and encouraged her to reconsider her decision. However, Kavitha maintained her stance, requesting that her resignation be accepted, stating that the delay in processing her resignation had already been prolonged for four months.
