In a major political development, Karimnagar Mayor Sunil Rao has announced his resignation from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and declared his decision to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Rao confirmed that he will formally join the BJP on Saturday in the presence of Union Minister Bandi Sanjay, stating that the move was made in the interest of Karimnagar’s development.

Rao’s resignation, along with that of ten other corporators, is seen as a significant setback for the BRS, as Sunil Rao is regarded as a prominent leader within the party. He has had close ties with BRS Chief KCR and is considered a family friend.
This shift comes ahead of the Graduate MLC elections in Karimnagar, Nizamabad, and Adilabad, fueling speculation that it could impact the BRS’s position in the region.
Sources indicate that BRS Working President KTR attempted to persuade Sunil Rao to reconsider his decision. According to reports, KTR reassured Rao of a secure future within the party, promising substantial positions if BRS returns to power in the future.
