Junior doctors in West Bengal have concluded their month-long protests, demanding justice for a fellow trainee doctor and changes to duty regulations. The protesters emphasized that they would not cease their demonstrations until their demands were met, regardless of statements from the government or the Supreme Court.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee engaged in five rounds of discussions with the junior doctors, ultimately reaching an agreement during the fifth meeting. As part of the negotiations, the government announced the transfer of Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal, appointing Manoj Kumar Verma as his successor. Additionally, Medical Education Director Kaustav Nayak and Health Services Director Devashish Halder will be removed from their positions.
In light of the government’s responsiveness to their demands, the junior doctors have declared an end to their protests and confirmed they will resume their duties starting Saturday.
