Hyderabad: The nomination withdrawal process for the Jubilee Hills by-elections has concluded, marking a crucial stage in the electoral preparations. After scrutiny, 81 nominations were approved by officials, of which 23 candidates withdrew today, leaving 58 candidates in the fray. Recognized parties’ candidates will receive their party symbols, while the Election Commission will assign symbols to the remaining contestants later today. With each EVM ballot unit accommodating 16 candidates, four units will be required for the election, a factor that may pose minor challenges for elderly voters.
With nominations finalized, candidates are now turning their focus to intensive campaigning. Polling is scheduled for November 11, with campaigning permitted until the evening of November 9. Election results are expected to be declared on November 14. The large number of candidates and multiple ballot units could make it challenging for voters to identify party symbols and names, adding an extra dimension to campaign strategies.

Leading contenders in the race include Congress’ Naveen Yadav, BRS’ Maganti Sunitha, and BJP’s Lankala Deepak Reddy. The ruling Congress is deploying all its resources to demonstrate continued political strength in the state. Ministers including Ponnam Prabhakar, Vivek Venkataswamy, and Tummala Nageswara Rao are actively participating in roadshows and public meetings. The BRS, aiming to retain its sitting seat, has mobilized senior leaders, former ministers, and MLAs to ensure coordinated campaigning at the grassroots level.
The BJP, buoyed by strong performances in recent MP and MLC elections, is treating the Jubilee Hills bypoll as a prestige contest. As the constituency falls within the MP’s jurisdiction, Union Minister Kishan Reddy is personally overseeing candidate selection and campaign management. The party is using the election to signal its political ambitions in Telangana and position itself as a serious contender for future state power.
