Hyderabad: Ahead of the Jubilee Hills Assembly bypoll, police have ramped up security measures and conducted extensive inspections across the constituency. During a routine check near Maitrivanam in Ameerpet, the Static Surveillance Team seized unaccounted cash worth Rs. 25 lakh being transported in violation of election rules. The vehicle, bearing registration TS09FF 6111, was driven by Sri Jairam Talasiya from Visakhapatnam. No supporting documents or receipts were presented for the cash, leading to its seizure.
In a separate operation at Srinagar Colony, Panjagutta police confiscated Rs. 4 lakh in cash along with nine bottles of Chivas Regal whisky and registered a case against the transporter. The seized cash and items were handed over to the local police in accordance with Election Commission guidelines.
The Election Commission clarified that the Model Code of Conduct applies solely to the assembly constituency where elections are being conducted. Since Jubilee Hills falls within the state capital and metropolitan limits, the MCC is enforceable only within this constituency.
District Election Officer and GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan stated that authorities are conducting widespread inspections and surveillance throughout Jubilee Hills to ensure compliance with election regulations and prevent violations ahead of polling.
