Tokyo: Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba on Sunday announced his resignation, citing internal differences within the ruling party. The announcement was made through an official statement.

The development comes after the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) coalition lost its majority in the Upper House of Parliament during the July elections, weakening Ishiba’s political standing.

Ishiba, a veteran leader who entered Parliament at the age of 29 after a career in banking, has played a pivotal role in Japanese politics over the decades. Known for voicing strong opinions on government policies, he has previously served as Defense Minister and Agriculture Minister.
