The Iranian military has announced a reward of thirty thousand dollars for anyone who kills a US soldier, doubling that amount to sixty thousand dollars if the person carrying out the act is a woman. However, the reward is conditional on either capturing or killing US soldiers. Iran’s Army Chief Amir Hatami announced this substantial reward, stating that the plan was drawn up in response to widespread appeals from the public.

Hatami said that anyone who kills or captures and hands over US military personnel involved in aggression would receive a reward of thirty thousand dollars, or the equivalent of 5 billion tomans, on behalf of the Army of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Since the US-Iran war began in the Middle East, there have been no confirmed instances of American ground forces being deployed, apart from one occasion when a US airman went down.

Speaking about the reward, Hatami said that courageous Iranian women who undertake such a daring act would receive double the reward. According to the report, Hatami also said that the weapon used to kill a US soldier would be purchased at double its price, and that the individual concerned would additionally be given a new weapon. He further stated that the weapon used by that person would be preserved in a special museum.

Hatami declared that the war with Iran had exposed all of America’s boasts about its military strength. Reiterating his country’s demand that the United States withdraw its forces from the Middle East, Hatami made clear that they would no longer be permitted to enter the Persian Gulf, the Gulf of Oman, or the Strait of Hormuz.

This announcement comes as the sixty-day window under the US-Iran Islamabad understanding, reached on June 17, nears its end. Following forty days of fighting that began on February 28, Iran and the United States had agreed to a temporary ceasefire in order to hold talks toward a permanent resolution. However, the ceasefire has remained extremely fragile, and talks have made no progress since. Instead, the two countries have continued to exchange sporadic fire. The fighting has been centred mainly around southern Iran and the Strait of Hormuz.

The number of US military personnel killed since the start of the Iran-US war has now reached 17. All of them lost their lives outside Iran, primarily in countries such as Iraq and Jordan.
