New Delhi: In anticipation of the Diwali and Chhath festive rush, Indian Railways has temporarily suspended platform ticket sales at five major Delhi stations — New Delhi, Delhi Junction, Anand Vihar Terminal, Ghaziabad, and Hazrat Nizamuddin — from October 15 to October 28, the North Eastern Railway announced on Twitter X. The decision aims to streamline passenger movement during peak travel days, with crowd levels expected to surge on October 17, 18, and 23 and overall passenger traffic projected to rise by 15 percent compared to last year.

Railways have advised travelers to plan their journeys in advance and allow entry only to those holding valid train tickets. Passengers are urged to safeguard their luggage, adhere to security protocols, and maintain social distancing within station premises. AI-based cameras are being installed in holding areas to monitor crowd density, provide accurate estimates, and facilitate effective crowd management.

To assist travelers, ten “I Will Help You” booths staffed by five RPF personnel and five commercial department employees each will provide information on ticketing, waiting areas, train schedules, and platform numbers. In addition, Indian Railways has operated a record number of special trains this year, with 596 services on the Delhi-Patna route, more than double last year’s 280, and plans to run 200 Vande Bharat trains, doubling last year’s count, to ensure smooth festive travel.
