New Delhi: A significant defence deal between India and the United States has been approved. Under the agreement, the US will supply India with 100 FGM-148 Javelin anti-tank missiles, 25 Lightweight Command Launch Units, and 216 Excalibur precision-guided artillery rounds.
The Javelin missile system, which played a key role in Ukraine against Russian T-72 and T-90 tanks, is shoulder-fired and highly effective against modern armoured vehicles. The missile is computer-guided, launches in two stages, and is capable of penetrating reactive armour before destroying the tank.
Developed by American defence firms Raytheon and Lockheed Martin, the Javelin system is technologically advanced and costly, with each missile valued at approximately $200,000.
The US has stated that the deal will strengthen the strategic partnership between India and the United States while significantly enhancing India’s defence capabilities.
