India Slams Disinformation Campaign Over Attacks on Hindu Minorities in Bangladesh

India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has strongly condemned what it described as a coordinated disinformation campaign aimed at blaming New Delhi for attacks and killings of Hindu minorities in Bangladesh. Rejecting these allegations, India has sought to place verified facts before the international community, asserting that violence against minorities in the neighbouring country cannot be ignored or misrepresented.

The MEA referred to the brutal killing of Hindu youth Deepu Chandra Das in Bangladesh’s Mymensingh district, an incident that sparked widespread outrage. According to reports, he was beaten to death by Islamist extremists, hung from a tree and set on fire. Indian officials said attempts were being made by sections of Bangladeshi media and extremist groups to deflect responsibility for the crime by shifting the blame onto India.

Addressing claims that the victim was attacked for making religious remarks, Indian authorities said preliminary investigations found no evidence of any provocative statements and concluded that the violence was triggered by rumours. The MEA also rejected reports alleging attacks on the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi, with spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal clarifying that only 20–25 people held a peaceful protest and that no security breaches occurred.

India further dismissed allegations linking it to the death of Bangladeshi student leader Usman Hadi, stating that available reports point to injuries sustained during internal clashes and firing. While Bangladeshi police have arrested seven accused in the Deepu Chandra Das murder case, India has called for stringent punishment for the main perpetrators and reminded Bangladesh’s interim government of its responsibility to ensure the safety of minority communities, their properties and places of worship. India reiterated that while it seeks peace and stability in Bangladesh, it will not compromise on the safety and rights of minorities in the region.
