India’s youthful Test side delivered a strong statement on Day One of the ongoing match against England, silencing critics who raised concerns over the absence of senior players. Batting first, India closed the day at an imposing 359 for 3, driven by centuries from opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and captain Shubman Gill.
Jaiswal struck a fluent 101 off 159 balls, including 16 boundaries and a six, while Gill remained unbeaten on 127 from 175 deliveries, also hitting 16 fours and a six. Wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant contributed an unbeaten 65 (102 balls), and KL Rahul added 42. England’s bowling attack struggled to break India’s rhythm, with only Ben Stokes (2 wickets) and Brydon Carse (1 wicket) finding some success. Sai Sudharsan was the lone Indian batter dismissed for a duck.
