Amid ongoing conflict in the Middle East involving Iran, Israel, and the United States, rumors suggesting India’s entry into the war have been circulating on social media. The Indian government has strongly refuted such claims. Reports claiming that the U.S. had sought military support from India for action against Iran were dismissed by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) as “completely false and baseless.”
Some reports had alleged that, under the LEMOA agreement, the U.S. might use Indian territory or the Konkan coast to launch attacks on Tehran while targeting American bases in the Gulf. The MEA clarified that no such agreement or proposal exists and described these claims as entirely unfounded. The ministry also urged the public to remain cautious and not believe such misinformation under any circumstances.
The rumors gained further traction online, suggesting that senior U.S. defense officials had approached India to deploy troops in West Asia. Speculation spread that India could become a participant in the escalating conflict. In response, an MEA spokesperson stated that no such proposals have come from the United States, and India has no plans to engage militarily in the region. The statement emphasized that “claims of Indian involvement in the West Asian conflict are entirely fabricated and irresponsible.” India reaffirmed its commitment to peace and resolution of issues through dialogue.
While expressing concern over rising tensions in West Asia, India is maintaining a neutral stance. The country has strong diplomatic relations with both Israel and Iran, and the safety of millions of Indians residing in the region remains a top priority. India also highlighted the risk of global oil price hikes due to conflict and expressed hope for de-escalation. The government urged citizens not to trust unverified news on social media and to rely only on official statements regarding sensitive international matters. It confirmed that it is closely monitoring the safety of Indian vessels and nationals in the Strait of Hormuz and other affected areas.
