Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, has made startling revelations about his health and the treatment being meted out to him by the Pakistani government. She said Imran Khan is still alive, but that the ordeal he is going through has caused deep anguish among family members.
Aleema said she had met Imran Khan and alleged that he is being subjected to severe mental and physical torture in jail. She said the government has imposed restrictions preventing Imran Khan’s family from giving interviews to Indian media. She lamented that the Pakistani government has been perpetrating these atrocities for the past 10 months, and that although he is currently alive, no one is being allowed to meet him.
Imran Khan’s sister revealed that he has been kept in extremely deplorable conditions. She said that when Nawaz Sharif was previously imprisoned, he had access to air-conditioned facilities, but Imran Khan has been confined to an extremely small death cell with no amenities whatsoever. Family members alleged that despite Supreme Court orders, the Pakistani government has been citing various excuses to avoid shifting him to a hospital, calling the authorities extremely cruel.
Speaking on the matter, Imran Khan’s other sister, Dr. Uzma Khan, said Imran Khan told her that his health was not good, that he had no books with him, and that he was not being given the opportunity to speak with anyone. She said he had only been given an eye examination, and that they were not satisfied with the medical care being provided. She alleged that keeping him isolated, unable to speak to anyone, was itself a form of torture, and that he has been enduring this same plight for the past 10 months. It is evident from his sisters’ statements that Imran Khan’s life remains under serious threat.
