A new spell of heavy rainfall is expected to impact Andhra Pradesh and Telangana over the coming days, according to a latest alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The warning comes even as both states are still recovering from the recent impact of Cyclone Montha.
Meteorological data indicates that a new low-pressure system is likely to form over the southeast Bay of Bengal on November 22. The system is expected to move in a west-northwest direction and may intensify into a depression by November 24. Weather models suggest that it could strengthen further while shifting towards the southwest Bay, significantly influencing coastal weather patterns.
In Andhra Pradesh, widespread rainfall is forecast between November 27 and 29. Districts including Prakasam, Nellore, Tirupati and large parts of Rayalaseema are likely to be affected. The State Disaster Management Authority has urged residents to remain alert and avoid travel during periods of intense rainfall. Emergency support will be available through helpline numbers 112, 1070 and 1800 42 50101.
Telangana is also expected to witness weather changes, with light to moderate rain predicted from November 23. While the state will experience dry conditions until November 22, a drop of 2–3°C in minimum temperatures has already been recorded in areas such as Patancheru, Medak and Adilabad, indicating strengthening winter conditions. Officials have stated that rainfall activity may further increase between November 23 and 25 as the weather system intensifies.
Authorities across both states have advised residents to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel and follow official weather updates as the situation evolves.
