Hyderabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall across Telangana today, placing several districts under alerts. An orange alert has been issued for Adilabad, Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, and Mancherial districts, while Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Medak, and Kamareddy districts remain under a yellow alert. Hyderabad and its adjoining areas are expected to experience light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching 30–40 kmph. Authorities have advised people to venture out only if necessary. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has directed all government departments to remain vigilant, with irrigation officials instructed to monitor reservoirs and lakes continuously. Residents in low-lying areas are being moved to safer locations.
Since Monday night, Hyderabad and surrounding districts including Medchal-Malkajgiri and Rangareddy have been witnessing continuous downpours. Kukatpally in Medchal-Malkajgiri recorded 46.3 mm rainfall, while Gajularamaram, Kapra, and Shamshabad also reported heavy showers. The relentless rainfall has caused severe waterlogging in several low-lying areas of the city. Major roads were flooded, leading to heavy traffic disruptions, while two-wheeler commuters in particular faced difficulties. Additionally, power supply interruptions were reported in multiple localities.
According to the IMD, rains are expected to continue in Telangana over the next few days. Officials have urged residents to remain cautious, avoid waterlogged areas, and step out only in emergencies. People living in vulnerable low-lying zones have been advised to stay alert and move to safer shelters if required. The state government has assured that all precautionary measures are being taken to minimize disruptions and ensure public safety.
