Hyderabad: The Hydra has resumed its demolition drive in Rajendranagar, targeting unauthorized structures on footpaths in Shastripuram. Supported by a 100-member police team, GHMC officials have started dismantling these encroachments, which include various business complexes occupying footpaths and roadside areas. Officials noted that these encroachments have caused significant traffic disruptions, especially during peak hours.
Hydra Intensifies Monitoring Around Himayat Sagar
In a new development, Hydra officials have shifted their focus to the Himayat Sagar region, launching efforts to accurately demarcate its Full Tank Level (FTL) and buffer zones. Utilizing records from the National Remote Sensing Agency and the Survey of India, officials plan to survey the area to study changes from 2010 to 2024. Following this assessment, HyDRA will extend its efforts to Osman Sagar and, in a second phase, to 549 lakes within the Outer Ring Road (ORR) limits. A preliminary notification has been issued for 411 lakes to set clear FTL and buffer boundaries.
Geo-Tagging Initiative for Lake Preservation
To safeguard against future encroachments, Hydra has also announced plans to geo-tag all lakes and ponds in Hyderabad. Revenue and irrigation departments are working closely to digitally survey the lakes, defining their area, FTL, and buffer zones. This data will be uploaded to the HMDA website to ensure public access and transparency. Additionally, reports indicate that similar demolition efforts may commence soon in Kukatpally.
