Hyderabad: Jeevan Lal, an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer serving as the Commissioner of Income Tax (Exemptions) in Hyderabad, was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹70 lakh from a businessman. Lal, who had demanded the amount to resolve tax-related issues for the businessman’s company, was caught red-handed during the transaction.
Following the arrest, the CBI also apprehended several others, including Sriram Palisetti from Srikakulam, Natta Veera Nag Sriram Gopal from Visakhapatnam, and individuals from Mumbai. Additionally, the CBI carried out searches at 18 locations across multiple cities, including Delhi, Hyderabad, Khammam, and Mumbai. Key documents, including valuable property records and tax-related papers, were seized during these raids.

The investigation revealed that Jeevan Lal, along with 13 other accused individuals, is implicated in the corruption case. Lal has been remanded to CBI custody after being presented in court.
Notably, Lal is the son of former Telangana MLA Ramulu Naik, who served the Wyra constituency as an independent candidate after being denied a Congress ticket in 2018. Naik later joined the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) but was not fielded in the recent elections. Lal’s wife, Shipra Srivastava, is an officer in the Indian Police Service (IPS).
