Hyderabad: Intermittent rains across Telangana on Monday disrupted vehicular movement, leading to traffic snarls and severe inconvenience for commuters. Waterlogging on several key roads slowed down traffic flow, and two-wheeler and auto-rickshaw riders were particularly affected, often forced to stop mid-journey due to the downpour. The resulting congestion added to the woes of city residents.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) attributed the weather disturbances to a surface trough extending from southeast Madhya Pradesh to south interior Karnataka via Marathwada, Telangana, and north interior Karnataka, at an elevation of 0.9 km above mean sea level. This system is expected to bring light to moderate rainfall to many parts of the state today, tomorrow, and the day after. Tonight, gusty winds of 40–50 kmph accompanied by rainfall are likely in the erstwhile districts of Adilabad, Khammam, Warangal, Nizamabad, Nalgonda, and Mahbubnagar.
The IMD has issued an orange alert for 21 districts and a yellow alert for 12 districts. On Tuesday, similar weather is expected in Khammam, Nalgonda, Warangal, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Mahabubabad, Suryapet, and Hanamkonda. A yellow alert has also been issued for 10 districts. Due to the rainfall, maximum daytime temperatures across Telangana are likely to drop by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius. Authorities have urged the public to remain alert and avoid non-essential travel.
