Tech giant Google is set to establish a massive data center in Madhurawada, Visakhapatnam, with a capacity of one gigawatt and an estimated investment of ₹50,000 crore. This facility will be one of the largest Google data centers outside the United States and the biggest hyperscale data center in Asia.
The project, highlighted by Invest India under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, is being described as a “game-changer” that will strengthen India’s position as a global digital hub. The data center will support Google Cloud, Search, YouTube, and AI services, enabling faster delivery for industries, startups, and government applications.

Experts estimate that the data center will create direct employment for approximately 25,000 people, with potential indirect opportunities for another 50,000. The facility will store data locally, reducing the risk of data leaks and ensuring enhanced security. To support international bandwidth requirements, it will include landing stations for three submarine cables, complemented by Google’s existing peering and caching servers in Mumbai.
Google selected Visakhapatnam for its beachside location, which provides ample water for cooling the facility. The investment is expected to make the city a key hub for digital and AI technologies in India.
