Police have launched an investigation into an illegal operation in which blood was being collected from live animals without authorization. Acting on a complaint by GHMC Deputy Commissioner Vani, Keesara police registered an FIR against Sonu Mutton and Chicken Shop under BNS Section 223 and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act (PCAA). The incident of collecting blood from live goats at the shop has caused widespread concern.
On January 4, Keesara police raided Sonu Mutton Shop in Nagaram, seizing 130 packets of goat blood and arresting three individuals involved in the collection. Investigations revealed that the blood was being transported to CNK Imports and Exports in Kachiguda and supplied to laboratories for platelet preparation. Authorities said the operation was conducted without following any medical or safety standards, raising suspicions of large-scale illegal activity.
During a subsequent raid at CNK Imports and Exports, officials recovered nearly 1,000 litres of animal blood stored in refrigerators. The facility reportedly contained equipment such as an autoclave machine and laminar airflow unit, typically used to transfer blood in a sterile environment. Authorities suspect the blood may have been processed for use in culture media, dermatological treatments, hair products, and serum extraction for vaccines. The main accused, Nikesh, remains at large.
Officials also discovered that the collected blood was being sent to Pali Medicare in Haryana, though the full purpose and scale of the operation remain under investigation. Preliminary inquiries indicate that animals were being bled in remote areas of Keesara, highlighting the organized nature of the “Goat Blood Mafia.”
The Central government has taken the matter seriously, initiating a large-scale investigation under the supervision of the Central Drug Control authorities. Officials are probing whether the collected blood was being used for clinical trials and have emphasised that collecting and transporting animal blood without proper authorization is illegal. The case continues to develop as authorities seek to apprehend all involved and uncover the full scope of the operation.
