French President Emmanuel Macron, on an official visit to India, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday at Lok Bhavan in Mumbai. PM Modi gave Macron a warm welcome during the meeting. Prior to this, the French President and his wife Brigitte paid tributes at the Taj Hotel to the victims of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.
Three-Day India Visit
Macron arrived in Mumbai on Monday night as part of his three-day India visit. His itinerary focuses on strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly in defense and artificial intelligence. Key discussions during the visit include the Rafale fighter jet deal and collaboration in AI research and technology.
AI Impact Summit Participation
Macron is scheduled to participate in the AI Impact Summit in Delhi on February 19. The summit will serve as a platform for India and France to explore joint initiatives in emerging technologies, including AI-driven solutions across sectors.
Rafale Deal Prospects
During his visit, there is a possibility that an agreement for the supply of 114 Rafale fighter jets to India could be finalized. The deal, valued at ₹3.25 lakh crore, would become the largest defense contract in India’s history if concluded during Macron’s visit, marking a major milestone in India-France defense cooperation.
