In the fake liquor case that created a major stir in Andhra Pradesh, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has filed a 10-page chargesheet before the Vijayawada Excise Court against former minister and YSR Congress Party (YCP) leader Jogi Ramesh. He has been named as the 18th accused (A18) in the case. The chargesheet contains key allegations detailing his purported role in promoting the illicit liquor network.

According to the SIT, Jogi Ramesh allegedly encouraged the fake liquor operation not only for financial gain but also with the intent of generating public resentment against the present coalition government. The investigation revealed that after April 2024, he allegedly exerted pressure to intensify the production of spurious liquor by establishing operational centres at Mulakalacheruvu and Ibrahimpatnam. The alleged objective was to create an impression that fake liquor was flooding the state, thereby damaging the government’s image.

The SIT stated that Jogi Ramesh has maintained close associations with the prime accused, Addepalli Janardhan Rao, since 2006. The two were reportedly partners in running Swarna Bar (now Cherry Bar) and later played significant roles in the Ibrahimpatnam bar syndicate in 2017. Investigators said these long-standing links formed the basis for the illegal liquor manufacturing and distribution network.

The chargesheet further alleged that substantial sums were paid by the Addepalli brothers to Jogi Ramesh to ensure the smooth functioning of the illicit trade. It noted that amounts ranging from ₹3 lakh to ₹5 lakh were allegedly paid every two to three months to Jogi Ramesh and his brother, Jogi Ramu. Call data records, WhatsApp conversations, and financial transaction details have been cited as primary evidence.

The SIT also revealed that raw materials were sourced from Goa, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad, and fake liquor was sold using the names of well-known brands. Meanwhile, legal counsel representing the Jogi brothers, who are currently in judicial remand, are making efforts to secure bail.
