Amaravati: As Bihar prepares for its upcoming Assembly elections, the Election Commission (EC) has taken action against alleged fake voters and issued notices to Jan Suraaj Party chief Prashant Kihor. The EC stated that Kihor possesses two voter ID cards—one in Bihar and another in West Bengal—and directed him to submit his explanation within three days.
According to election officials, Kihor’s West Bengal voter ID is registered at Kalighat Road in Kolkata, which also serves as the Trinamool Congress (TMC) headquarters. During the 2021 Assembly elections, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee contested from that constituency, while Kihor worked as a political strategist for the TMC. He also holds another voter ID in his native constituency of Karghar, Bihar, prompting the EC’s intervention.
Responding to the development, Jan Suraaj Party spokesperson Kumar Saurabh Singh said the issue stemmed from an error by the Election Commission itself. He stated that the EC is responsible for maintaining accuracy in voter ID issuance and should be held accountable for such lapses. Singh further criticized the commission, remarking that if mistakes can occur in the case of a well-known public figure like Prashant Kihor, the condition of common voters raises even greater concerns.
