New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Saturday granted the CBI’s request for custody of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who was arrested in connection with the Delhi liquor case. The court approved a 14-day judicial custody for Kejriwal based on the CBI’s remand report, which stated that Kejriwal did not cooperate adequately during the investigation. The CBI claimed in court that Kejriwal provided conflicting and evasive responses to the evidence, suggesting deliberate attempts to evade accountability.
Kejriwal’s judicial custody has been extended until July 12, as ordered by the Delhi court. He is scheduled to appear before the court on that date via video conferencing. Meanwhile, Kejriwal faces charges related to a money laundering case linked to the liquor scam, for which he was recently granted bail by the Rouse Avenue court. However, the Delhi High Court stayed the bail following a plea from the Enforcement Directorate (ED), leading to his arrest by the CBI.
