Joe Biden has formally withdrawn from the U.S. presidential race, a decision that has been met with acclaim from various quarters within the Democratic Party. Biden’s move is widely seen as an act of selflessness aimed at promoting party unity. Former President Barack Obama praised Biden’s decision, stating, “Biden’s choice underscores his commitment to the country. Although he deserved a second term, his decision demonstrates his patriotism.” Obama highlighted Biden’s achievements, including the strengthening of NATO and global cohesion against Russia’s actions in Ukraine. Nonetheless, Obama has cautioned about potential unforeseen repercussions, prompting heightened vigilance among Democratic leaders.
Biden has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor. However, Obama has not yet extended his support to Harris, suggesting that the party should establish a transparent process for selecting the presidential nominee. Similarly, Nancy Pelosi, a key Democratic leader, has not voiced support for Harris. The Democratic Party’s convention, scheduled for next month, will determine the official nominee with the participation of 4,700 delegates.
Harris has expressed her appreciation for Biden’s endorsement, describing it as an honor. She reiterated her commitment to uniting the nation and defeating Republican candidate Donald Trump and his “Project 2025.” Former Presidents Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton have also voiced their support for Harris.
In response to Biden’s withdrawal and Harris’s endorsement, Donald Trump stated, “It’s easier to defeat Kamala Harris than Biden in the upcoming presidential election.” Trump criticized the Biden administration’s handling of various issues and vowed to address the problems faced by Americans. The recent surge in Trump’s popularity, coupled with Biden’s exit and Obama’s indecision regarding Harris, has intensified speculation about the potential outcome of the 2024 election.
