The state of Andhra Pradesh is witnessing a renewed surge in COVID-19 cases, with the Health Department confirming over 257 infections in recent days — the highest reported in the country during this period.
In a latest case, a woman in Visakhapatnam has tested positive for COVID-19, raising concerns of further spread within her household. Authorities suspect that her husband and children may also be infected. RT-PCR tests have been conducted for all family members, and they have been advised to remain in home quarantine for one week. Health officials have urged the public not to panic and stressed that strict adherence to COVID-19 precautions is sufficient to contain the virus.
Key Guidelines Issued by the Andhra Pradesh Health Department:
All public gatherings including religious events, social functions, and parties must be suspended with immediate effect.
COVID-19 safety protocols must be strictly followed at railway stations, bus terminals, and airports.
Senior citizens (above 60 years of age) and pregnant women are advised to stay indoors.
Citizens should maintain personal hygiene, wash hands frequently, and avoid exposure to coughs and sneezes.
Wearing face masks in crowded places is mandatory to prevent virus transmission.
Individuals exhibiting COVID-like symptoms must undergo testing without delay.
Those who have recently returned from COVID-affected countries should get tested.
Common symptoms include fever, cough, fatigue, sore throat, headache, loss of taste or smell, body aches, nasal congestion, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
Individuals experiencing any of the above symptoms should immediately visit the nearest health centre.
Anyone feeling unwell should remain at home to prevent potential spread.
Hospitals across the state have also been directed to stock adequate supplies of face masks, PPE kits, and triple-layer masks, and ensure availability in 24/7 diagnostic laboratories.
The Health Department is ramping up efforts to raise public awareness and has instructed district-level officials to intensify COVID-19 prevention campaigns across the state.
