Hyderabad: Goshamahal MLA T. Raja Singh has been acquitted in three more cases by the Nampally Special Court, providing significant relief to the BJP leader. The cases pertained to hate speech, election rally violations, and Sri Rama Navami procession permit violations, registered at Mangalhat and Shahinayathgunj police stations.
In 2022, police invoked the Preventive Detention (PD) Act against Raja Singh based on a case registered on February 19, 2022, at Mangalhat police station. He was arrested and sent to Chanchalguda Jail, marking the first time an MLA in the state faced PD Act charges. However, the Nampally court rejected his remand, citing procedural lapses, including the failure to issue a CrPC 41 notice and non-compliance with Supreme Court guidelines.

Following his release, police sought legal opinion and re-examined previous cases before invoking the PD Act again, relying on cases at Mangalhat and Shahinayathgunj stations. The Nampally Special Court has now declared him not guilty in these cases.
Meanwhile, the People’s Representatives Court recently dismissed multiple hate speech cases against Raja Singh, cautioning that such incidents should not be repeated. Five police stations across Hyderabad had filed cases related to hate speech, which were taken up for hearing last week.
Additionally, Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube, has banned Raja Singh’s social media accounts for allegedly posting hate speech and religiously sensitive content. A report by India Hate Lab claimed that in 2024, he made hate speeches across political rallies, election campaigns, religious processions, protests, and nationalist events. Based on this assessment, Meta removed his accounts from its platforms.
