The Congress continued its strong performance in the second phase of counting for Telangana local body elections, maintaining the momentum gained in the first phase where it emerged as the leading party.
Polling in the second phase was held across 193 mandals for 3,911 gram panchayats and 29,917 ward member posts. Counting commenced at 2 pm on Sunday, with results from several villages declared by 5 pm.
According to early trends, Congress candidates have secured victories in over 600 villages so far. BRS candidates have won in more than 200 villages, while the BJP has emerged victorious in over 70 villages. Candidates from other parties and independents have won in over 200 villages.
Counting is still underway in several gram panchayats. However, Congress leaders are confident that the party will retain its lead and win the highest number of seats in the second phase as well.
