Hyderabad: The Congress High Command has decided to give senior leader and former minister, MLC Jeevan Reddy, another opportunity to contest the upcoming graduates’ MLC election. Reddy will be fielded as the candidate for the districts of Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Adilabad, and Medak. The decision has already been formalized and sent to the High Command for further approval.
Reddy, responding to the development, mentioned that the party leadership would make the final decision regarding his candidacy. He expressed his willingness to contest if the party instructs him to do so. The TPCC chief has also met with leaders from the four districts to gather their opinions on his potential candidacy.
Jeevan Reddy has a significant political history, having won six terms as an MLA from Jagityal in the former Karimnagar district and serving as a state minister. However, he was defeated in the 2018 Assembly elections. Reddy made a comeback in the subsequent graduates’ MLC elections. In the 2023 Assembly elections, he lost again to BRS candidate Sanjay from Jagityal. Later, the Congress nominated him for the Nizamabad Parliament elections, where he was defeated by BJP’s Dharmapuri Arvind.

The Congress leader has expressed dissatisfaction over Sanjay’s switch to Congress after defeating him in the 2023 elections. This situation has led to several critical remarks by Reddy about the Congress party. At one point, there were speculations that he might leave the party. However, multiple discussions were held with Reddy by Congress state affairs in-charge Deepadas Munsi and TPCC Chief Mahesh Kumar Goud, and now the party is considering him again for the MLC elections.
