Hyderabad: The Congress party has finalized its candidates for the upcoming MLC elections in Telangana under the MLA quota. Of the five available seats, Congress is set to secure four based on its Assembly strength, while BRS is expected to claim one.

As part of its alliance, Congress has allotted one MLC seat to the Communist Party of India (CPI). For the remaining three seats, AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal held discussions with party president Mallikarjun Kharge at his residence. Following an hour-long meeting, the party finalized its candidates.

Congress has named Kethavath Shankar Naik, Vijayashanti, and Addanki Dayakar as its MLC candidates. Shankar Naik and Addanki Dayakar, both from the undivided Nalgonda district, belong to the ST and SC communities, respectively. Vijayashanti, a former MP from Medak, has been chosen as a candidate despite her name not being widely discussed in earlier deliberations.

Shankar Naik, who serves as the president of the Nalgonda District Congress Committee (DCC), has strong influence in tribal settlements across Miryalaguda, Suryapet, Nagarjuna Sagar, and Huzurnagar. His candidacy was reportedly recommended by senior Congress leaders, including Ministers Uttam Kumar Reddy, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, and Jana Reddy.
