Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has issued a stern warning that strict action will be taken against contractors and officials if the Makthal–Narayanpet Kodangal lift irrigation project is not completed within two years. Addressing the “Praja Palana Vijayotsavam” meeting in Makthal on Monday, held to mark two years of the Congress government in the state, he said delays would not be tolerated and accountability would be ensured.
Revanth criticised the previous BRS government for allegedly neglecting the issues of the Palamuru region, particularly Narayanpet district. He stated that major irrigation projects in the region remained incomplete under the earlier administration and that the previous government had no intention to complete the Narayanpet–Kodangal lift scheme. He added that when the Congress government attempted to resume work, court cases stalled progress for nearly 18 months. According to him, land acquisition has now been completed with ₹20 lakh compensation per acre to ensure farmers suffered no losses and project construction is set to commence.
The Chief Minister highlighted ongoing developmental initiatives, including the construction of 14 Young India Integrated Schools in Palamuru, and announced that the Telangana Rising Global Summit will be held on December 8 and 9 to attract investors. He reiterated his goal of transforming Telangana into a $1 trillion economy by 2034 and a $3 trillion economy by 2047. Urging people to elect capable representatives in the coming panchayat elections, he assured that his government will take responsibility for providing both water and financial support to rural areas.
Revanth’s warning has sparked political debate, as one of the contractors involved in the project is Raghava Constructions, reportedly linked to Minister Ponguleti Srinivas. Political observers believe the remarks may have indirectly targeted the minister, triggering sharp reactions and satire across political circles. It may be recalled that the Chief Minister recently laid the foundation stone for development projects worth ₹270 crore in the Makthal constituency.
