Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has directed officials to expedite the Moosi River Revitalisation Project, underscoring the state government’s commitment to restoring the historic river. The move comes in the wake of past controversies and public protests over the demolition of illegal structures along the riverbanks, which had triggered months of public-government friction. However, following a High Court directive mandating the cleanup of the river, the government has intensified efforts to move the project forward.
In a high-level review meeting held at the Command Control Centre on Friday, CM Revanth Reddy reviewed key components of the project, including the proposed Gandhi Sarovar at Bapughat and a 2.5-kilometre bridge over the Mir Alam Tank. The Chief Minister instructed officials to issue tenders for the bridge construction by June and complete all required surveys, reports, designs, and a comprehensive Detailed Project Report (DPR) in advance.

Officials presented conceptual bridge designs through a PowerPoint presentation. Revanth Reddy emphasised that the bridge must be an architectural landmark and prioritise both visual appeal and commuter safety. He also called for the inclusion of tourism-friendly features, suggesting the creation of three scenic islands within Mir Alam Tank, inspired by Singapore’s Gardens by the Bay. These islands are to feature attractions such as a bird sanctuary and waterfalls.
Further, the Chief Minister proposed developing wedding destination venues, convention centres, an adventure park, a theme park, and an amphitheatre to position the site as a major tourist hub. He stressed the importance of incorporating boating facilities and hospitality infrastructure such as resorts and hotels. He also ordered the purification of the tank water and directed officials to include all tourism and environmental aspects in the DPR.

The Chief Minister recommended that the development of these islands be pursued under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. He also called for hydrological and environmental assessments from expert organisations to anticipate water flow during floods and ensure disaster-resilient designs.
Additionally, the CM suggested integrating the island zone with the neighbouring Nehru Zoological Park and instructed that the zoo be upgraded in alignment with the larger development plan. He asked officials to consult zoo authorities and assess possibilities for expansion within the regulatory framework.
The meeting was attended by government advisors Vem Narender Reddy and Srinivas Raju, Municipal Administration Chief Secretary Dana Kishore, Moosi River Development Corporation Joint Managing Director Gowthami, and other senior officials.
