Hyderabad: Chief Minister Revanth Reddy announced in the Assembly that alleged irregularities in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project will be investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The decision, he said, was based on findings of the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA), which flagged anomalies in the planning, design, and construction of the Medigadda, Annaram, and Sundilla barrages. He added that, considering interstate issues and the involvement of central agencies, referring the matter to the CBI was appropriate. The House approved the proposal unanimously.

The move came after prolonged and heated debate in the Assembly. CM Revanth accused former CM K. Chandrashekar Rao and BRS leader T. Harish Rao of shifting the project site from Thummidihatti to Medigadda for vested interests, despite the Centre confirming water availability at Thummidihatti in 2009 and 2014. Harish Rao countered, questioning why the NDSA had not ordered an inquiry into repeated failures at the Polavaram project between 2019 and 2025, which reportedly caused losses of over ₹7,000 crore. He alleged double standards in the authority’s approach.
CM Revanth said a CBI probe would ensure credibility and avoid allegations of political vendetta in the event of action against KCR.
