China has long set its sights on Arunachal Pradesh, a state in northeastern India, with reports suggesting that parts of the region have already been claimed by China. In a recent report, the Pentagon shed light on China’s territorial ambitions, stating that the country regards Arunachal Pradesh as part of its territory. It highlighted that China intends to achieve its strategic goals by 2049, with key regions like Arunachal Pradesh, Taiwan, and the Senkaku Islands forming part of China’s national security plans.

The Pentagon’s report further clarified that China views the inclusion of critical territories such as Taiwan as a fundamental aspect of its national rejuvenation strategy. The Chinese leadership sees this process as a long-term objective, with three primary goals in mind: maintaining control over the Communist Party of China (CPC), driving the nation’s economic development, and asserting sovereignty over disputed regions. According to the Pentagon, China’s policies aim to secure both internal and external stability in the face of rising international pressures.

On the ongoing border tensions, the Pentagon addressed the current situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) between India and China. It emphasized that the meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the 2023 BRICS summit played a crucial role in bringing about a de-escalation of tensions. The Pentagon believes that this meeting has helped pave the way for the restoration of bilateral relations between the two nations and could lead to further cooperation in managing the LAC situation.

Lastly, the Pentagon also revealed that China is closely monitoring the growing ties between India and the United States. It noted that China is taking necessary precautions to ensure that the strengthening of India-U.S. relations does not undermine its own strategic interests. The report further suggested that China is carefully assessing how India’s shifting alliances might impact its regional and global influence, especially in the context of its ongoing territorial disputes with neighboring countries.
