Hyderabad: The Telangana government has received a crucial No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Chhattisgarh for its Sammakka Sagar project on the Godavari River, which is being constructed to enhance water availability with a planned capacity of 6.7 TMC. Certain areas in Chhattisgarh are expected to face submergence due to the project.

Telangana Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy met Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai to request the NOC, assuring compensation, rehabilitation, and resettlement measures for affected residents. Following discussions, the Chhattisgarh CM approved the NOC, enabling the project to move forward. Uttam Kumar Reddy later expressed his gratitude for the cooperation.

The Sammakka Sagar barrage aims to improve irrigation and water resources in Telangana. Prior to the approval, the Telangana government had coordinated closely with Chhattisgarh authorities on land acquisition, compensation, and mitigation measures for areas impacted by the submergence.
