New Delhi: The central government has denied reports suggesting that TikTok may soon re-enter the Indian market. Officials clarified that the ban, imposed in June 2020 following security concerns after the Galwan Valley clashes between India and China, remains in place. They confirmed that no order has been issued to lift the restrictions on the app.
Authorities further explained that TikTok’s website continues to remain on the blacklist of internet service providers. While some users recently reported limited access, the platform is non-functional, with login and video upload features disabled. Moreover, the app is not available for download on either Google Play Store or Apple App Store in India.
The IT ministry emphasized that the ban on TikTok, along with dozens of other Chinese apps such as PUBG, UC Browser, and ShareIt, was enforced to safeguard citizens’ data and protect national sovereignty. Officials reiterated that the recent reports about TikTok’s return are baseless and misleading.
