In a significant development, 11 IAS officers, including GHMC Commissioner Amrapali, have been directed by the central government to report to Andhra Pradesh after their requests for the Telangana cadre were rejected. These officers had applied to the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) for reassignment to Telangana, but the applications were denied. Among the officers affected by the decision is Ronald Rose, Secretary of the Electricity Department.
Amrapali, who had listed Visakhapatnam as her permanent address in her UPSC application, was originally assigned to the Andhra Pradesh cadre. Despite her appeal to be recognized as a local of Telangana, the Pratyush Sinha Committee had previously rejected her plea. Considering these factors, the central government issued the latest order directing her and the other officers to relocate to Andhra Pradesh immediately.
This decision raises questions about the next steps for Amrapali and the Telangana government, with many observing the situation closely to see how it unfolds.
Amrapali’s Career Progression
A 2010 batch IAS officer, Amrapali started her career as Sub-Collector of Vikarabad following her training. She later served in the Women and Child Welfare Department in Hyderabad. In 2015, she became the Joint Collector of Ranga Reddy District and later served as the Collector of Warangal Urban District. Her career continued with a posting as Joint Commissioner of GHMC and Joint Chief Electoral Officer in the Telangana Election Commission. In 2020, Amrapali was appointed as Deputy Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office. After completing her deputation, she rejoined the Telangana services and currently serves as the GHMC Commissioner.
