The central government has prioritized the development of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, recently announcing the allocation of financial assistance for both states. Andhra Pradesh is set to receive Rs 498 crores, while Telangana will be allocated Rs 516 crores.
In recent weeks, the Chief Ministers of both states, Revanth Reddy and Chandrababu Naidu, have held multiple meetings with Prime Minister Modi and various central ministers. Political analysts suggest that these ongoing discussions and consecutive visits to Delhi have influenced the central government’s decision to release these funds.
In addition to the development funds, the central government has provided flood relief assistance to the Telugu states following significant losses incurred from heavy rainfall and flooding. A total of Rs 5,858 crores has been allocated to 14 states, with Telangana receiving Rs 416.80 crores and Andhra Pradesh getting Rs 1,036 crores from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF). Maharashtra received the highest allocation, amounting to Rs 1,432 crores. Central Agricultural Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and a central team have previously visited the Telugu states to assess the damage caused by the floods.
Furthermore, the central government has announced an advance release of funds for the Polavaram project. The Ministry of Water Resources has issued orders to release Rs 2,348 crores for the current financial year, along with specific conditions attached to the funding. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s strategic visits to Delhi have been viewed as successful, as he has engaged with central leaders on key issues such as pending funds for Andhra Pradesh and the completion of the Polavaram project.
