Hyderabad: Police have registered cases against Telangana MLC Chinthapandu Naveen, popularly known as Teenmaar Mallanna, and BRS MLC and Telangana Jagruthi founder K. Kavitha following a violent clash that erupted at the Q News office in Medipally on Sunday. The confrontation stemmed from controversial remarks made by Mallanna against Kavitha, which triggered protests by Telangana Jagruthi workers. Protesters allegedly vandalised furniture and windows at the media office during the incident.
Amid the altercation, Mallanna’s gunman reportedly fired six rounds in the air to disperse the crowd. One Jagruthi activist sustained a bullet injury. Police arrived promptly at the scene and brought the situation under control. Based on a complaint from Mallanna, police filed a case under IPC Sections 147, 148, 452, 307, 427, 506, 353 read with 149 and 109, along with applicable sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Mallanna alleged that the attack was politically motivated and intended to assassinate him.
In a counter-complaint, Jagruthi worker Lingamayya alias Ashok Yadav alleged that they had gone to question Mallanna about his remarks when they were attacked by his associates, who allegedly used knives and firearms and threatened women present. Police registered another case against Mallanna under IPC Sections 354B, 307, 506, 147, 148 and Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act. An investigation is currently underway.
