Cambodian Delegation Explores Scientific and Therapeutic Yoga Practices at MDNIY

Oct 3, 2024 45-member Cambodian delegation visited the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY) to gain insights into Yoga practices and their scientific applications. The delegation was warmly welcomed by Dr. Kashinath Samagandi, Director, MDNIY, who extended his greetings and shared an overview of MDNIY’s efforts in promoting Yoga at a global level.
During the visit, Dr. I. N. Acharya, Program Officer, MDNIY along with Communication & Documentation Officer Md. Taiyab Alam provided the delegation with a detailed briefing about the Institute’s state-of-the-art infrastructure, its various academic programs and activities aimed at disseminating the practice of Yoga.

In his address, Dr. Samagandi highlighted the Institute’s commitment to advancing scientific research in Yoga and its role in developing Yoga therapy and preventive healthcare. He also emphasised the pivotal role of the Yoga Certification Board (YCB), functioning under the auspices of MDNIY. He noted that the Board is making remarkable strides in accrediting Yoga institutions and certifying trainers across various levels of expertise, thereby ensuring high standards in both teaching and practice.

The delegation had the opportunity to participate in the “Y-Break” session, a scientifically proven Yoga protocol meant for working professionals to relax and rejuvenate both the mind and body. This hands-on experience provided them with practical insights into how Yoga can be seamlessly integrated into daily life, particularly in the workplace.
During the engaging discussions that followed, members of the delegation posed various queries about the role of Yoga in different health conditions. Responding to a question about Yoga’s efficacy during surgeries, Dr. Acharya explained that Yoga, particularly in rehabilitative care, has proven beneficial in facilitating the recovery of the patients.
