The sudden explosion triggered chaos as players and spectators fled in fear, leading to a brief stampede. Videos circulating on social media show thick smoke engulfing the ground moments after the blast. Police suspect the attack was carried out using an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and have launched an investigation. So far, no militant outfit has claimed responsibility.
The incident has once again raised serious concerns over security in Pakistan, especially at public gatherings and sports venues. Past attacks near cricket stadiums have already deterred international teams from touring the country. Just last week, a police station in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was targeted using a quadcopter, leaving a constable and a civilian injured.
