New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) faced a major setback in the latest round of Assembly bypoll results, with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) securing a significant victory in Gujarat — Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state. AAP candidate Gopal Italia won the Visavadar Assembly seat by a margin of 17,000 votes, defeating BJP candidate Kirit Patel.
By-elections were held on June 19 in five constituencies across the country: Ludhiana (Punjab), Kaliaganj (West Bengal), Kadi and Visavadar (Gujarat), and Nilambur (Kerala). Counting of votes took place on June 23.

Gopal Italia’s win in Visavadar is seen as a significant political development, especially since the seat was previously held by AAP MLA Bhupendrabhai Bhayani. Bhayani had resigned from both the party and his legislative post to join the BJP, necessitating the by-election.
AAP’s emphatic victory in Visavadar is being viewed as a blow to the BJP, particularly in a region considered its stronghold.
