Telangana’s first phase of Sarpanch elections has seen several unexpected developments, with ties and lucky draws creating a buzz among candidates and voters. In Khammam district’s Raghunathapalem mandal, Badyatanda, vote counting caused confusion when initial results showed the Congress candidate winning by a single vote. A second count declared the BRS candidate the winner by a three-vote margin, prompting a third recount. The final outcome is now eagerly awaited by both candidates and the public.

Several constituencies have seen tied results, leading to winners being decided by lucky draws. In Jagityal district’s Korutla mandal, Chinnametpalli 4th ward, two candidates received equal votes, and the toss declared Velamala Tirupati as the winner. Similarly, in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district’s Rajapet mandal, Lakshmakkapalli village, BRS and Congress-backed Sarpanch candidates each received 148 votes. A lucky draw resulted in BRS candidate Indla Rajayya being declared the winner, prompting celebrations among BRS leaders.

Regarding overall results, the voting percentages in various districts were as follows: Khammam 86.95%, Sangareddy 84.71%, Peddapalli 82.27%, Bhupalpalli 82.26%, Nalgonda 81.63%, Hanumakonda 81.39%, Rajanna Sircilla 78.58%, Jangaon 78.57%, and Asifabad 77.07%. In this first phase, elections were conducted for 4,236 Gram Panchayats, with 395 Sarpanch seats uncontested. Polling was held for 3,834 Gram Panchayats, with Congress leading in 688 seats, BRS in 253, BJP in 38, and others in 94 seats.
