New Delhi: Former Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal has categorically denied reports suggesting he may enter the Rajya Sabha. Addressing the media following the party’s victory in the Ludhiana West Assembly bypoll, Kejriwal stated that he has no plans to move to the Upper House.
“There have been multiple reports in the past claiming I would go to the Rajya Sabha. I want to clarify once again — I am not going. The party’s Political Affairs Committee will decide who should be nominated,” Kejriwal said.
Speculation arose after AAP’s sitting Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora won the Ludhiana West by-election in Punjab. His victory necessitates resignation from the Rajya Sabha, prompting conjecture that Kejriwal might be nominated in his place. Kejriwal’s latest statement puts an end to those reports.

Meanwhile, AAP has registered key wins in the recent bypolls held across five constituencies — two in Gujarat and one each in Punjab, Kerala, and West Bengal. In Gujarat’s Visavadar seat, AAP candidate Gopal Italia secured a decisive victory over BJP’s Kirit Patel with a margin of over 17,000 votes. BJP retained the Kadi seat with Rajendra Chavda emerging victorious.
In Punjab, Sanjeev Arora won the Ludhiana West seat, adding to AAP’s bypoll gains. Despite its recent poor performance in the Delhi Assembly elections, AAP’s success in these by-elections has boosted the morale of party workers, who celebrated the victories across various states. Party leaders see the results as a positive sign ahead of future electoral battles.
